Here's where to start...
For over 100 years now, the vast majority of laboring women in the US have been conforming to the needs of their doctors and hospitals.
But, today, the nature of how birth and laboring women are treated is changing. More and more women are demanding to be respected and heard in the birth room or choosing a birth team and location that allows them to be heard.
How do you make sure YOUR birth is in your control and goes your way?
You have to find your birth voice and once you have enabled your birth voice, you are ready to go into your birth with all the confidence you need to have the respectful ear of your birth team and be in control of your birth.
Finding your birth voice comes from first understanding your everyday voice, getting clear on how you operate in the world day in and day out and where your natural strengths are.
When you uncover your natural strengths, which we call your Natural Birth Compass, you can prepare very specifically for your birth by knowing which areas you need to focus on and which you are already prepared for.
For example, in your daily life or your job, you probably have tasks or skills you are naturally good at, like being a great organizer, a great communicator, a great leader, a great chef, or maybe you're a great listener.
If you are a great organizer, you don't have to plan organizing into your day, you just do it because it comes easy to you. But, for someone who is not strong at being organized, they might have to work harder at managing their morning so they don't forget their lunch, their purse or where they put their car keys. The disorganized person will have to put intention work into creating routines or habits to prevent delays in their morning.
Likewise, if you are a great listener, you don't have to work hard at hearing what someone is sharing with you or asking you, people probably love to talk to you and maybe even open up to you more than their other peers because they feel a sense of connection. For someone who is not gifted in the area of listening, they might have to work hard at training their mind to focus on the person they are listening to and continually pull their attention back to the conversation.
You cannot be strong in all areas, but knowing where you are strong will give you insight into how to use your strengths in birth and help you see what areas of challenge you will need to develop before birth so you can feel confident that you can keep your birth in your control.
